The annual call for film submissions has been issued by the Port Townsend Film Festival for its ninth annual festival scheduled for September 26-28, 2008, according to Peter Simpson, artistic director.
Films will be accepted in six categories:
- narrative feature (more than 60 minutes in length)
- documentary feature (more than 60 minutes in length)
- short narrative feature (between 30 and 60 minutes)
- short documentary feature (between 30 and 60 minutes)
- short narrative (less than 30 minutes)
- short documentary (less than 30 minutes)
The "absolutely final" deadline is April 15, 2008, but earlier deadlines have been established for January 31, February 29, March 15 and 31. The earlier the submission, the less the submission fee.
All films are reviewed in their entirety by at least two reviewers. If the reviewers find merit in the film, they are forward to a three-person selection committee which makes the final decision. The final arbiter is artistic director Simpson. If the first two reviewers split their decision, a third reviewer is engaged to determine whether or not the film will be sent to the selection committee.
