WIN TICKETS FOR URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL
You could be the lucky winner of two tickets to Urinetown: The Musical!
A most generous (and anonymous) donor recently purchased a sponsorship
on behalf of the Port Townsend Film Institute in Bainbridge Performing
Arts production of Urinetown: The Musical. Since we have been given
a block of tickets to their Saturday, May 12 performance and reception
we want to make them available to you!
PTFF will raffle off five pairs of Urinetown tickets to our 2007 Port
Townsend Film Institute members on Monday May 7th at noon. Please be
sure to sign up or renew
your membership by then to be eligible for this
amazing drawing.
The Bainbridge Performing Arts production of Urinetown runs from May
11-13, 18-20, and 25-27 with show times starting on Fridays and Saturdays
at 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 3pm. For additional information please
visit BPA online at http://bpa.dynalias.org/.
From the Bainbridge
Performing Arts Website:
Urinetown, The Musical describes itself as an absurdist melodrama about
a city in the midst of a drought so devastating that a malevolent corporation
has been able to take control of all the toilet facilities. Greed, corruption
and betrayal run rampant and the public desperately seeks relief. It
pokes fun at local government, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement,
petty-minded and small-town politics, musical theatre convention and
even itself.
Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Circle Critics Awards, two
Lucille Lortel Awards, and two Obie Awards UrinetownĶ is a spoof that
is also sincere, a fringe hit that captured mainstream audiences, an
edgy stylistic romp with some provoking underlying ideas. Lying somewhere
between The Beggars Opera and West Side Story, UrinetownĶ is a contemporary
musical satire with a heart.
A PEAK BEHIND FESTIVAL OPERATIONS
Some people are surprised to hear that people work full time, year round
to run the Port Townsend Film Institute the umbrella organization to
the festival. But when you consider that it will cost upwards of $250,000
to conduct the 2007 Port Townsend Film Festival and other year round
activities you can see why. The costs to transform Taylor Street into
a free outdoor cinema ($6,500), to fly our VIP Guest and their spouse
to Port Townsend first class ($1,300) or to ship a single film from South
Korea ($750) make the numbers add up.
It is during the seeming down periods of the festival (November through
May) that the Institutes staff work to bring in the necessary funding.
This year we would like to raise 40% of our income, almost $100,000,
through cash sponsorships.
Unlike outright donations, sponsorships offer organizations marketing
opportunities during the festival. Benefits can include having your logo
on the festival banner, poster, video trailer, and in the festival program
guide. So we are busy calling, writing, meeting with organizations who
might consider partaking in this opportunity.
We have amazingly generous sponsors who commit each and every year to
being festival sponsors. Here are a few who are returning for 2007: Sport
Townsend, Dons Pharmacy, Morgan Hill Getaways, Lehanis, The Green Eyeshade,
Food Co-op and the Rose Theatre.
We would like to welcome some new sponsors to the festival including
BaffleGab, John L Scott Real Estate, Richard Berg Architects, Seacraft
Classics and the Law firm of Platt Irwin and Taylor. Thank you for your
support!
PTFF PLUS ONE
It can be exceptionally difficult for well deserving non-profits
to communicate their good works to the community. But did you know
that businesses and individuals could purchase a Port Townsend Film
Festival sponsorship on behalf of another nonprofit! You can quite
literally help two nonprofits, PTFF plus one other education or charitable
organization, at the same time.
Imagine an accountant or a lawyer who does not want or need anymore
business. She could buy a PTFF sponsorship for a favorite charity
instead. By purchasing a PTFF sponsorship on behalf of an organization,
say Olympic Mountain Pet Pals as an example, she supports them with
the additional public exposure. Pet Pals could have their logo on
a theatre banner, in the program, and in the wildly popular video
trailers. This helps to raise awareness of all the Olympic
Mountain Pet Pals services (like their spay/neuter and feral cat program)
to better the lives of our companion animals. Additionally she is
financially supporting PTFF. Two for the price of one!
The Port Townsend Film Festival is a wonderful communication vehicle.
By supporting PTFF you support our community.
