Women and Film 2017 – Festival Highlights


Saturday April 8, 2017

10 am: Co-Directors, Kathleen Brennan and Jina Brenneman attend with their feature film, Agnes Martin Before the Grid. Director Gael Towey and artist Sheila Berger attend with their short film, Portraits in Creativity: Sheila Berger.



 1 pm: Director Amy Benson will attend with her feature film, Drawing the Tiger. Mo Scarpelli, our former PTFF Film Fellow, will attend with her new short film, El Hara.


NEW! Saturday evening, 5-6:30, please join us at Taps at the Guardhouse, Fort Worden, for a Meet the Filmmakers event. Food is available for purchase, no host bar. Our 12 film professionals will attend.

7 pm: Special Screening! All Pass holders can attend. Wheeler Theatre, Fort Worden. We are honored to welcome Rita Coburn Whack, co-director of Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise. Ms. Whack is an award-winning writer, producer and director for television, magazines, series, news, talk shows, documentary programming and social media. Her television projects include three Emmy Award-winning documentaries and productions for local and public-television programs airing on C-SPAN and the History Channel. Her projects include Mobsters (1997), Democracy Now (2001) and Apollo Live (2012).

Akuyoe Graham, actor and social activist, will interview Ms. Coburn Whack to introduce the film. Click HERE.

10 am: Director Kamala Lopez attends with her feature film, Equal Means Equal. This screening is supported by the Jefferson County Community Foundation Fund for Women & Girls.


10:15 am Taylor Stein, producer, writer and subject of the film about adopting a child with challenges: Magnificent Burden.




1:15 pm Meet Ina Pinkney at the screening of the documentary film about her last weeks as a Chicago restaurateur, Breakfast with Ina
