We realize that because Port Townsend has a wealth of opportunities for folks to become involved, you can be fairly particular about what organization will benefit from your skills and time. So, why should you consider volunteering for the Port Townsend Film Institute? As we all know, volunteering in general enriches our lives in many ways. When we meet new people and work together toward a common goal we can't help but feel a sense of accomplishment that comes from being a successful part of something outside ourselves. We matter. When you volunteer for PTFI, you are joining a diverse group of people brought together by their shared love of film and its potential to entertain, enlighten and maybe stir up some new thoughts. PTFI matters. Yes, we are still a fantastic weekend celebration of independent film and filmmakers, known as the Port Townsend Film Festival, but we are evolving to be much more than just that. You can be part of our journey.
Nearly two hundred amazing volunteers will be the heartbeat of the Port Townsend Film Festival for 2011. We have lots of opportunities available requiring different skills and commitment levels for that event, as well as year-round.
Where can you see yourself?
Theatre venue managers, assistant managers and ushers: We manage lines, seat folks, answer questions and just generally make the festival run smoothly.
Hospitality Registration: We sell passes, greet our guests and introduce them to the PTFF while providing superior customer service.
Merchandise: We sell hats, t-shirts, jackets, posters and other cool stuff with our PTFF logo or each year's poster design.
Magic Lantern Wine & Beer Emporium: Located on Taylor Street, we serve beverages and facilitate the Q & A sessions for filmmakers. Must be over 21 to volunteer in this venue.
Office: We answer phones, meet new people, manage spreadsheets and problem solve…all the while having way more fun than you would expect in an office.
Transportation & Guest Services: We manage transportation, hospitality and more. We make our guests feel more like family than visitors.
Data Jockey/Computer skills: We have many opportunities for data entry, survey work and ballot tabulation.
Event Crew: We set up and strike the festival as well as other events. You will need work gloves, a strong back, a sense of humor and if you have a truck-even better.
Party Crew: Special events and parties are the signature of the PTFI. We do food, set-up and break down of various receptions, celebrations and fund raising events year-round. Also called penguins because sometimes we wear tuxedos and evening gowns. Do you like to work late nights? The Crew could be for you.
PTFF Tech Support: Calling all geeks! We have a high regard for those folks who can wrestle cords and electrons and all things technological. Here at PTFF, we are moving rapidly toward an even richer technology interface. Want to wrestle some electrons? This could be a grand way for you to join the crew.
Film Selection Reviewers: Yup, we do that too…it's a film festival after all.
