2008 Festival Details
Independent, Foreign, Classic, and Art-house narrative and documentary films, plus special programs like:
- NPR's West Coast Live! broadcasts from The Upstage on Sat. Sept. 27
- Reel World Flix screens students' documentary films
- Formative Films features a special guest curator, to discuss a personally influential film
- Film2880 challenges filmmakers to complete a short film in 2880 minutes (48 hours)
- talkmovies@theupstage venue has filmmakers' panel discussions
- Drop-in Theatre is a free continuous-run screening room. No passes or ticket required!
- And, of course, the film camp for kids is back because it was such a success
You can mingle with stars, converse with filmmakers during Q&A discussions, or just relax on straw bales for the free family-friendly Taylor Street outdoor movies under the stars.
How to Fest
Welcome to the ninth annual Port Townsend Film Festival! The next couple of pages are for you to better understand the process and procedures of our festival.
Pass & Ticket Options
The festival employs several pass & ticketing options. Each pass comes with specific opportunities. Some tickets also have special privileges. If it appears that someone is “cutting the line”, check the pass they are wearing!
Passes can be purchased in our online store now, or at the Hospitality Center in the Bishop Hotel Tent, 714 Washington Street, beginning Thursday, September 25 at 10 am. You can also obtain programs, ask questions, learn about PTFF membership, and meet friends!
FESTIVAL (RED) PASS - $195
Access to film screenings and Q&A sessions on a first-come,
first-seated basis (See The Q below). Includes the Festival Feast
Friday night on Taylor Street dinner. Each pass includes the Festival Feast Friday night on Taylor Street dinner provided
by the Silverwater Cafe.
PRODUCER (BLUE) PASS - $500 for one / $900 for two
Same as Red Pass, except you skip the Q and may be admitted directly to the venues beginning 30 minutes before your film starts. Includes a Producer
level membership.
PATRON (GREEN) PASS - $1,300 for one / $2300 for two
Same as Red Pass, except you skip the Q and may be admitted directly to the venues beginning 30 minutes before your film starts. You are guaranteed seating until the lights go down. Includes a Patron
level membership.
STUDENT PASS (RED) - $90
Jefferson, Clallam and Kitsap County students attending high school or college can purchase
a student pass with a valid student ID and photo identification.
ADVANCE TICKET SALES BEGIN 9/8
You can buy individual screening tickets for the Uptown and Rose Theatres only this year. Sold on a first-come, first-serve basis starting September 8 for PTFF members and September 15 for the general public. Availability is limited.

Purchase advanced tickets at the PTFF office, or by calling our box office at 360-379-0198 starting Monday, September 8. (You will get a fax machine if you call before 9/8.). Note that advanced tickets are only available for screenings at the Rose and Uptown Theatres. Online ticket sales begin Monday, Sept 15th. The box office is open between the hours of 9 AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday, or noon-3pm on Saturday and Sunday, Sept 20-21 at the PTFF office. Ticket sales at the PTFF office as well as the web will close at 5 PM on Thursday, Sept 25. Sales resume at the Hospitality Center (behind Bishop Hotel) at 4:30 Friday until 9:45 PM. Sales will then be open 8:15 AM-noon on Saturday, and 8 AM-noon on Sunday.
Will Call. Advance tickets may be picked up at the Hospitality Center only Friday, Sept. 26 at 4:30 PM-9:45 PM, Saturday Sept 27 8:15 AM-9:45 PM and Sunday, Sept 28 8 AM-7:45 PM.
FILM CAMP PASS - $60
PTFF collaborates with Firefly Academy Preschool to offer this fun and educational film camp for ages 2-12. Kids participate in special film activities, art and crafts, science experiments just one block from the festival's central square. Cost can be split between siblings. Cancellations
If a program is cancelled, rush ticket holders should see the Theatre Manager for either a refund or a voucher and advance ticket holders need to go to the theatre box office.
The Q
Although sometimes confusing, the Q insures that our first-come, first-seated policy works. The Q is a line as well as a numbered slip of paper you use to hold your place in line so you can get a bite to eat, visit the wine & beer garden, use the restroom, etc.
At each theatre venue there are two Q lines, one red, the other yellow. Upon arrival at each theatre:
Join the Q for the film you want to see
- Red Q – Red Passes/Vouchers
- Yellow Q – Yellow Passes/Vouchers & Rush Tickets
Q tickets are passed out no more than 60 minutes before each film. Once you pick up your numbered Q, you are free to leave or hang out and visit.
No less than 30 minutes before your film return to your respective Q line.
- Red Q admits in numerical order. If you are late and your number has already been called you will be asked to go to the end of the Q!
- At 15 minutes to show time, Yellow Q admits in numerical order
No Q for you!
Holders of Blue & Green passes/vouchers and Advance tickets may be seated 30 minutes before the film begins. Green passes/vouchers and Advance tickets may enter anytime until the lights go down.
Pope Theatre
The Pope Marine Theatre is unique to the Q system. This theatre is the only venue that is a first-come, first seated event for all ticket-buyers and pass holders.
Rainshadow Properties Hospitality Centre
Located in the Bishop Hotel Tent, the Rainshadow Properties Hospitality Centre is the place where you can:
- Pick up or purchase Red, Blue, & Green passes
- Become a PTFF member
- Pick up Festival programs
- Find what you may have lost & serves as a general information center

Daily Newsletter
Each day of the festival a newsletter will be available. These newsletters will have the breaking news, highlights and last minute schedule changes. The first one comes out on Friday at 4pm, followed by the weekend editions at noon and are available at all venues.
Getting Around
Parking downtown can be difficult to find and is often inconvenient. Here are some solutions:
- Park at Jefferson Transit’s Park and Ride (turn off Sims Way between McDonalds and Safeway) and take the number 11 shuttle to Water and Adams downtown. Walk one block to the Festival on Taylor Street.
- Festival bus service provided by All Points Charters and Tours will stop at the Taylor Street Information Kiosk next to the Haller Fountain on Washington Street, the Uptown Theatre, the Pope Marine Theatre, the Rainshadow Properties Hospitality Center and by request to the Jefferson Transit’s Park and Ride.
Schedules are available at the Rainshadow Properties Hospitality Center for both Jefferson Transit and the festival shuttle.
The Fine Print
- Programs are subject to change. Check the daily newsletter (at Hospitality & venues) for updates.
- Turn off all cell phones, pagers, & beepers during all programs.
- Recording devices of any kind are prohibited.
- Seat-saving is prohibited.
- Children younger than 6 are permitted only at the Outdoor Movies. (See Child Care/Film Camp)
- Most of the films are not rated. We will try to alert you if there is graphic violence, strong language, nudity, etc. Parental discretion is advised.
- Check program timing! Run-times do not include Q&A sessions nor introductions. We have staggered the film start times to help you see as many films as possible.
- Out of kindness to the people who sit on the straw bales, no dogs on Taylor Street please.
Merchandise
Located at Artisans On Taylor (AOT Gallery) and at the Rainshadow Properties Hospitality Center, our PTFF “store” carries t-shirts, caps, note cards, posters and PTFF filmmakers’ DVDs. This year’s t-shirts are made from 100% organically grown cotton. They are manufactured by participating members of the FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION which supports fair and ethical trade.
Libations
As homage to the early days of film, the duly named Magic Lantern wine & beer garden on Taylor Street will feature refreshing beverages from PT Brewery & the Wine Seller. Check the Festival’s daily newsletter for a schedule of filmmakers’ appearances at the Magic Lantern. Sip a brew with a director and get their autograph. Over 21 only.
Restrooms
Restrooms are available in all venues and on Water Street next to the police station. Portable restrooms are available on the corner of Taylor and Washington and at the Uptown Theatre on Polk Street.
Recycling
Look for marked recycling bins on Taylor Street and Polk Street at the Uptown Theatre. Please separate your garbage and recyclables into the clearly marked receptacles. Thank you!
Uptown Theatre (Lawrence & Polk). You can take the Festival bus or take a walk uptown to our largest venue. Resturants, food vendors and a great time await! (320 seats)
Drop-In Theatre (714 Washington St.). This is our free, continuous run-screening room in the Hospitality Center. Films run from 10 am - 6 pm Saturday and Sunday. No passes or tickets required. (25 seats)
Pope Marine Theatre (Water & Madison). An equal opportunity venue…first come, first seated for ticket-buyers and all pass-holders. (75 seats)
Rose Theatre (235 Taylor). (150 seats)
Rosebud Cinema (235 Taylor). (78 seats)
Taylor Street Outdoor Cinema. Sit on straw bales and watch movies under the stars. Family friendly, bring blankets and extra seating.
talkmovies@the upstage (Upstage Theatre and Restaurant, 923 Washington, behind the Rose Theatre). This is the site for short classes, panel discussions and the West Coast Live! broadcast. (125 seats)
VOTE for your favorite programs!
As you enter each venue, you will receive a ballot. After the program, please make a small tear at the appropriate rating and give the ballot to a volunteer as you exit. We listen to you; we use these ballots for the Audience Favorite Award and to plan next year’s program.
